Rimac Is Building a Single-Seat Track-Only Hypercar

Rimac is planning to build a track-only hypercar with a single, centralized seating position, CEO Mate Rimac confirmed to Motor1 on Friday.

“Now we have decided to not just push the limits in road cars, but also in racing on track,” Rimac told Motor1. “So we are building a track car, a single seater that’s going to be faster than any race car for most tracks. Faster than Formula 1, faster than Le Mans.”

This type of car is a big departure for the Croatian performance brand, which has previously only built two-seater electric cars for the road. Rimac went on to say the car will have a closed-canopy-style cockpit, and would not be based on the Nevera but rather sit on its own, distinct platform.

“We will probably show you this year and do the first track events next year,” Rimac told Motor1.

When asked whether Rimac plans to launch a spec series with the car, Mate said the company plans to set some new records first. The CEO confirmed to Motor1 the single-seater will be a track-only vehicle, will no road-going intentions. But it won’t conform to any existing ruleset, either.

“Safety is there but everything else? No rules,” Rimac said. “[It will go] beyond Formula 1 or LMP rules.”

The news of a new Rimac comes just hours after the brand showed off its latest creation, the Nevera R. A more focused version of the all-electric hypercar, the Nevera R makes 2,107 horsepower, with a claimed 0-60 time of 1.74 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 8.23 seconds, and a top speed of 256 mph. We can only imagine how much quicker things can get without the constraints of road-legality.

Acura Confirms ‘NSX-Type’ EV Headed to Production

After years of rumors, Acura finally confirmed plans to build an “NSX-type” EV.

“We are going to introduce a [new] sports model in 2027 or 2028,” global executive vice president Shinji Aoyama told a group of journalists, including Motor1, during a roundtable interview at Monterey Car Week.

“We may not call it an NSX, but it’s kind of an NSX-type of vehicle,” Aoyama added.

He went on to say the car would ride on Honda’s new 0 (Zero) Series electric architecture, which will underpin its first electric sedan set to launch in 2026.

A third-generation NSX has been rumored since 2021, when Acura vice president and brand officer Jon Ikeda said in an interview that “there’s gonna be another NSX.”

“Our development approach for this new 0 Series [car] is thin and light,” Aoyama said. “So this means, basically, how to make the platform thinner than other existing vehicles. So even [with battery dimensions], we are trying to make a thinner vehicle. So that we can realize a lower-height vehicle. This means that we can realize a larger [cabin], as well.”

An all-electric NSX would have big shoes to fill. The last version, which ended production in 2022, used a twin-turbo V-6 and three electric motors to make a combined 600 horsepower (in Type S form). It looked great and handled well, able to take the fight to contemporaries like the McLaren 650S, Lamborghini Huracán, and Ferrari 488.

While straight-line speed won’t be a problem for the NSX(ish) EV, handling and track endurance remain a question mark for even the most expensive electric supercars on the market today. Plus there’s the issue of sound. The second-gen NSX’s V-6 doesn’t exactly ignite the soul, but it sounds a whole lot more appealing than the whir of a few electric motors. We’ll just have to wait until 2027 to find out what Honda has in store.

The Cadillac Opulent Velocity Concept Will Teach You How to Drive in Real-Time

A few weeks ago, Cadillac revealed the Sollei concept, a stunning convertible that felt like something we could see in the brand’s lineup very soon. Today, the automaker looks further into its future with Opulent Velocity, a new concept that envisions what the V-Series brand could look like when autonomy, luxury, and performance exist in the same all-electric package.

Cadillac is light on powertrain details for the Opulent Velocity, calling the concept an “experience-based design study.” It focused on crafting two distinct user experiences controlled by a physical switch in the cantilevered center console. Opulent mode engages the car’s Level 4 autonomous capability for a hands-free driving experience. Velocity mode presents the steering wheel and pedals for the driver to take full control. But this concept is about much more than drive modes.

Cadillac

The increased processing power needed for higher levels of autonomous driving will allow Cadillac to craft unique user experiences inside the cabin. The extra computational oomph could power software capable of teaching drivers the best line around the track on-demand, using the concept’s full windshield and augmented reality head-up display for a “ghost car” function like in video games.

“Ultimately, it’s how fast can I go around the track, what’s my best time, and what’s the best way to do it, and if I can enable that better through the tech, what are the opportunities?” Bryan Nesbit, the executive director of Global Cadillac Design, said in a statement. “And that’s really what this study is about.”

The Opulent Velocity is also a testbed for new battery packaging, cooling technologies, and finishes. It has big butterfly doors, making ingress and egress easier due to the concept’s low hip-point. Cadillac experimented with the brand’s vertical lighting signature and took a departure with the rear lights while illuminating the grille, badge, wheel center caps, and wheel spokes.

Inside, Cadillac designed a cabin that wraps around its occupants. It’s supposed to feel light and floaty, according to the brand. While the full windscreen display and augmented HUD will relay info to the driver, the steering wheel also features a screen.

Cadillac’s V-Series brand celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, bringing in new, young, college-educated buyers into the brand. The automaker wants to build on that success, and the Opulent Velocity previews what those buyers and fans could own and drive one day. The concept will made its public debut on Friday a The Quail during Monterey Car Week.

The Ruf Rodeo Is a 911-Shaped Off-Roader With Big Turbo Power
  • The 2025 Ruf Rodeo is a custom off-road sports car heavily inspired by the classic Porsche 911.
  • It has a carbon monocoque chassis, carbon fiber body panels, and a water-cooled flat-six turbo engine making over 600 horsepower.
  • The car is production-ready; pricing and availability will be announced at a later date.

Off-roading in a Porsche isn’t anything new, but Ruf’s take on a safari 911 is something special. Amid the suspension lift, off-road tires, and upgraded flat six you’ll find leather … lots of leather. Say hello to the 2025 Ruf Rodeo.

If that name sounds familiar, it should. Ruf created a Rodeo concept back in 2020 that also had some visual shock value. This time around, Ruf says the interior adopts a “Western Americana theme” and draws inspiration from the Ralph Lauren Ranch. Acres of brown leather extend across the dash, the center console, door panels, and portions of the seats. The rest is a literal patchwork of fabric with vibrant stitching that evokes the American West. Its heart may have originated in Germany, but in Ruf’s hands, this 911-themed machine looks more at home in an old John Wayne film.

Ruf

It looks western on the inside, but classic 911 lines define the exterior. The body is made of carbon fiber and features integrated door handles, a plethora of air intakes, and a ducktail spoiler at the back. It looks comically small tucked between the aggressively flared rear fenders.

We suspect the Ruf Rodeo needs every inch of that space, too. Between those fenders is a turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six making 610 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. It’s a water-cooled mill, powering all four wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. You’ll find double-wishbone suspension with horizontal pushrod dampers on the front and rear axles, and 9.6 inches of ground clearance thanks to its knobby 18-inch tires clawing at the dirt. Six-piston brakes handle stopping power in front, with four-piston clamps are on the back.

Ruf

Despite its burly appearance and all-wheel-drive powertrain, Ruf keeps the Rodeo’s weight to 2,756 pounds. Credit goes to the aforementioned carbon fiber body and a lightweight carbon monocoque chassis, which is also infused with an integrated steel roll cage. It’s not light on options, either. It has power windows, locks, air conditioning; everything you need for a cozy road trip through places without roads. One thing it doesn’t have is an infotainment system. Between the leather convention happening inside and 610 hp at the back, we suspect there’s plenty to keep driver and passenger occupied.

Ruf

“We wanted to create a car that evokes a sense of nostalgia while benefitting from the thrill of modern technology that can let you go anywhere,” Ruf boss Alois Ruf Jr. said in a statement. “We have a deep sense of connection to the beauty of the American West and wanted to honor that in the Rodeo. And, most importantly, we wanted to create something fun.”

Expect more information on pricing and availability soon.
